The methods to do this help you improve rankings as well, so you may want to know how to do this. There is a benefit behind it. But having a pagerank of seven means nothing at all if your website is not ranked anywhere for your niche keywords.

Getting one way links.

That is the number one method. Now there are many methods to get one way links. The more you get, the higher your pagerank. The faster you get them, the faster you see pagerank increase. Nothing too difficult to understand there.

Popular websites like youtube, google, yahoo and so on have a high pagerank simple because almost everyone links to them. They get many one way links automatically from people.

The higher the pagerank of the webpage that links to your site the better, because it gives your site more pagerank. The less outbound and inbound links on that webpage the better. Outbound links are links that point to other websites and inbound links are links that point to other webpages on that same site.

A one way link from a content website is always better than a one way link from a directory. One within an article is more better than one in the bio section of the article. Bio section is located just after the article. A link inside content is always better.

But how all this may help you. After all you are not going to spend all that amount of time to get one way links. However if you can hire someone you can give them specific instructions. They are going to do the work anyway not you. You might as well provide them clear instructions as to what you want, you get more benefits.

Instead of getting a thousand one way links from anywhere, you can get a hundred from pagerank six webpages. The main benefit is that it is easier and faster to get hundred than a thousand backlinks so you get backlinks faster and rankings improve faster.

So here are some other things to consider.

Now you need to decide which webpage on your website you want to have the highest pagerank. Usually it is the homepage. You can use nofollow tags to filter almost all your pagerank to your homepage. It means your other webpages will pass pagerank to the homepage. To do this simple link to your homepage whenever you can, just one link from each webpage.

Then put the nofollow tag on the links on your homepage that either point to your inner pages or to other websites. So your homepage does not pass any pagerank at all.

These help your rankings, simple because your homepage is getting many backlinks and it links to none.

So think carefully for a bit of time if you have a budget set aside to hire someone to help you in search engine optimization. You can make a big difference by taking in consideration some simple things that can help you get more powerful one way links in a short period of time.

How I improve search engine rankings? Get a step by step answer, complete and a blue print to seo success using Karl Sultanas material.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Karl_Sultana pagerank 2

How on Earth Do You Fake a PR (PageRank)?

Why would one want to have a fake pagerank? Google PageRank is a factor that determines a websites price. Usually the higher your pagerank is the more cash you can get for your website or advertising space on your website. Many webmasters are also buying pagerank for their website(s). A link to you on a website that has a pagerank of 8 will pass some juice to you and google's robots will see this as a good vote for your website. Sometime later your web page may end up with a higher pagerank. The popular belief is that pagerank is all it takes to make your website more popular and thus appear in search results more often. While it is one factor to determine the positions of your web pages in search engines, it certainly is not the only and most important one. The recent google penalization of selling text links has cooled down matters a little bit, but websites with forged google pageranks still appear daily in the webmasters markets. Now that the reasons of why one should fake a page rank are known, we will look how this is done and how to avoid purchasing such websites or advertising on it.

SPOTTING A FAKE PAGERANK

There are two possible indicators that show google pagerank may not be valid. One is when a page shows pagerank in online tools but does not have any or very few backlinks in google. For example a website claims to have a pagerank of 7, but when you check it with the previously mentioned tool it shows no or very few backlinks (50 is very low for a website of PR7).

The Second possible scenario is when a domain is masked to redirect to a higher PR site. The masked page will temporarily gain the pagerank of the page it was masked to, even after the domain masking is taken down. All a person has to do in order to fake a pagerank is use a redirect for their domain and point it to a high pagerank domain. In the Google toolbar it will show the PR of the page it was pointed to.

DETECTING A FAKE PAGERANK

Detecting a fake PR is fairly simple. If you think that a site is showing a fake PR, then simply take a look at its cache version on Google. Make sure you check both instances, with and without the www prefix. One may be redirected, while the other not!

* Check cache by going to google and typing in info:yourdomain.com

* Check cache by going to google and typing in info:www.yourdomain.com

If you type the name of one domain, but results return a different domain, than this means an obvious sign of PR faking. To do that it is either doing a 301 / 302 redirect directly or with the use of cloaking. 301, 302, 200 are status codes which tell your browser what to do next.

* 301 - Permanent Redirect

* 302 - Temporary Redirect

* 200 - Connection Established and The Request Has Succeeded

To find out whether it is doing a 301 / 302 redirect directly or indirectly with cloaking, you have to look at its HTTP Header.

SUMMARY

So next time you buy a website, domain or advertising on a particular webpage, be sure to check out these indicators! If you are suspecting a faked pagerank, leave this website and search for another one.

Urban is an expert in fraud investigation, SEO, online marketing and business. It's no secret that acquiring PageRank is a big part of doing well with Google. I've personally seen my own pages receive huge jumps in traffic after PageRank updates. By now, you probably know PageRank comes from the number of incoming links to your web site; the higher the PageRank of the incoming links, the more PageRank your site will receive.

The problem with link building campaigns is you rarely get out of them what you put in. You're doing pretty good if you get responses from one in four people you contact. In order to make things simpler, people often join traffic exchange programs, or simply post forms on their page and wait for link partners to come to them.

The problem with these methods is you often get offers from sites you don't particularly want to link with. Maybe they're selling something you'd rather not be associated with, or their site is brand-new and sloppily put together, and it's not going to be much of a boost to your PageRank. Now, I'm not saying you should never link to a new site, because today's PR-nothing could be tomorrow's PR 6 or 7. Rather, I just want to offer a tip to help you capitalize on your link hunting time.

Step 1: Do a Google search for your target keywords.

Step 2: Visit the highest ranking sites, and use Google Toolbar to check their back links.

Step 3: Ask for links from the sites that appear in the back links.

Simple, hunh? What this does for you is thus: gets you in contact with people who are willing to exchange links with sites in your keyword area, and perhaps more importantly, gets you in contact with sites that have a high enough PageRank to appear in Google's back links (typically, only PageRank 4 sites and above appear here).

This should help you find the links that can truly help you, and it should cut down on your wasted link hunting time. Now, don't you have some links to find?

About The Author

TC Thorn makes a living from advertising and affiliate programs. You Are Not Alone

People are very confused about Pagerank. At one end of the scale there are those who believe it's worthless, at the other there are those who believe it's of significant value. So who's right?

First off let's look at how you secure Pagerank. When someone links to a page on your site it's considered to be a vote for it, a thumbs up. It's one of the key metrics Google's systems use to decide the importance of a page. ONE of the key metrics. If many other pages link to your page they are giving Google a signal that your page is important. If the pages linking to your page also have links to them and they are considered to be important pages, their link to you is given even more value. This is why some people suggest it's not worth getting a link from a page unless the page you want the link from has itself got a decent pagerank - this is misguided.

With me so far?

The history behind this relates to the Google boys, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, being academics. In academia peer reviewed papers are the common currency of 'status'. If you write a paper and your peers review and applaud it you are off to a good start. If your paper is then referenced by other people's papers it's stature and kudos goes up further, as does yours as the author.

So, suggesting Pagerank is worthless is actually untrue, it may not generate a ton of lucrative traffic, but it does have a value.

So why is it not the be all and end all of a web page? Simple, relevancy.

Google needs to deliver relevant results to people searching. If they don't people will go elsewhere for their search needs. It doesn't simply look for the page with the highest Pagerank to put at number one, it looks for a page that is most relevant. This is why a Pagerank 3 page can be at number 1 with a Pagerank 6 being at number 10.

How Google decides on relevancy is complex and they don't share the formula with the outside world! The stuff we know is used includes various on page 'tags' such as Title, H1 etc, and the relevancy of links.

So, an example - Suppose you have a page on your site and it has 100 links to it. These links are from pages that themselves have links and as such a decent Pagerank. These links give your page a Pagerank of say 4. However, although the pages linking to your page have a good Pagerank they are not exactly relevant to your page. That is to say your page could be about ships but the pages linking to you are about birds, mountains and needlework. These links are giving your page a good Pagerank but they are not relevant to your page.

So along comes a person searching and they type 'ships' into Google. Your page, with its Pagerank of 4 is at number 8 but the page at number one only has a Pagerank of three! How come?

The page at number one most likely doesn't have as many links as you, or at least as many quality links - links from pages that themselves have links. However, the links the page at number one does have are all from sites about ships. So, other pages about ships are linking to this page which is about ships. That's (probably) why it's beating your Pagerank 4 page even though it's only Pagerank 3, and that's why people think Pagerank has no value. "How can Pagerank have any value if a page with Pagerank 3 beats a page with Pagerank 6?". You now understand why, relevancy.

What this all means is simple. If you have a high Pagerank because you've been busy securing lots of irrelevant links you are not going to see much benefit from it. If however you have a high Pagerank from securing highly relevant links you will see a benefit from it. This is why sometimes the number one page is a high Pagerank and sometimes it isn't.

Getting a good rank in Google for a competitive phrase is hard work. In this context you shouldn't concern yourself with pagerank. If however you can secure high quality relevant links to your page you will see your pagerank AND traffic increase.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=David_A_Robinson

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.aboutthepagerank.com/2009/02/are-you-confused-about-pagerank-you-are.html' title='Are You Confused About Pagerank? Many are surprised about this early update because PR usually updates quarterly or every 3-4 months. As usual, different effects to different websites took place. Many sites that who have gained PR are surely clapping their hands right now, while some who got the reverse effect are definitely wondering why? But there are also those sites who's PR remains unchanged, at least its a draw.

As I visit SEO Forums and read different SEO articles, many are saying that PageRank doesn't really matter anymore. They say that PR is already ignored and its value is not weighted that much. On the other end, there are people who still give importance to Google PageRank. Most of them still uses them as a reference of identifying the value of a sites pages. This contradicting ideas gives impact on how we should treat PR as far as our Internet marketing campaign is concerned.

On my own point of view, PageRank is still valuable and considerable in different ways. Imagine this, who would have want to exchange links on websites with PR0? I guess no one would engaged in this kind of link trading unless both of them have the same PR0 rating. A site with PR7 won't even think of linking with PR0 sites that's for sure. PageRank is still a good basis in measuring the page importance of websites. This link algorithm may not be perfect but it does help us determine the quality of a particular site.

No matter what people may say about PageRank, let us face the fact it is still a factor to consider. Having a high PR brings a lot of opportunity to do well in this kind of business. Even though some people ignore it, they don't notice that it does affect their site even in the slightest way. PageRank is not formulated by Google for nothing. It has many purposes and one of them is to deliver viewers with quality and satisfying web pages.

Search Engine Optimization Specialists (SEO) For a successful Internet Marketing Campaign visit our website and check out our Search Engine Optimization Service.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Nik_Sulyap

What is Link Building?

Link Building, simply enough is the process of getting links from other websites to point at your site.

This is the way that Google and other Search Engines, such as Yahoo, MSN, ASK, etc assess the popularity of a particular website. Much in the same way that an election works, so does linking; the person with the most votes wins. The website with the most links pointing at it gets the highest in the search engine rankings, or SERPs. (Search Engine Results Pages).

Larry Page and Serge Brin; the founders of Google, devised a special way of counting all these links, called PageRank. PageRank is the basis of Google and how it works. The maths and science behind pagerank, is quite complicated, but in a nutshell, it is an algorythmn that calculates all the links on the Internet. It then gives a score to a webpage, based on the amount of links that website page is receiving. It works by both assessing the links to that webpage and from that webpage. A link to a webpage is called a backlink. But be aware all links are not the same.

This is a very important point to remember when link building. For example: If I have 10 links pointing at a webpage and 1 link from that webpage, that one link is going to be very powerful. If I have 1 link to a webpage and 10 links from that webpage, those 10 links will not be very powerful.

Have a look at the pagerank toolbar from Google. You can add this to your google toolbar. Although it is not very accurate, (Google for trade reasons will never give a completely accurate picture) it is a fantastic way of assess the value of the link you are getting. The pagerank tool gives a score from 1 to 10 of the importance of that website. (how many links it has pointing at it) No one knows if this is entirely accurate apart from the people at Google, but it will show you how the pagerank score is created.

It is always best to get links from webpages with a highpage rank. For example if you got the BBC (which has a pagerank of 9) to link to your website from their home page - your job as an SEO would probably be over! This is because the BBC website is one of the best websites on the Internet. It has hundreds of thousands of links, thousands of pages with unique well written content.

It is nearly impossible to get links from pages with a pagerank over 6, because of the value of these links. A good rule of thumb is never bother with webpages with a pagerank of 0. The best you are likely to get is 1-3. In my experience the best I have every got is a 6, but this took a lot of wrangling, trading, exchanging my own links.

Pagerank only works as a guide to getting links. But what is Pagerank and how does a websites pagerank effect search engine rankings? In this article I'll address those questions and try to give you some insight into this often confusing topic.

What is Google pagerank?

Google developed the "pagerank" system several years ago for the purpose of gauging how "important" a web page is. The higher the pagerank, the more "important" Google thinks the webpage is. Google uses this gauge as a part of its ranking algorithm.

Where does pagerank come from?

Pagerank is all about webpages linking to other webpages. You see, every page that Google indexes has a pagerank value associated with it. Every time one page links to another page, a portion of that pagerank value "passes" to the page it links to. Higher ranking pages, pass more pagerank to the pages they link to.

What happens is, when one page links to another page, it's kind of like the page that does the linking is voting for the other page. So to get pagerank to your webpage, all you have to do is get other pages to link to it.

Pagerank is really just a mathematical calculation that determines how "important" a webpage is based on how "important" the pages that link to it are.

A crucial point here that is often misunderstood is that pagerank is passed on a page by page basis. Many webmasters assume that a sites pagerank is determined by its home page. While it's true that the homepage is often the highest ranking page within a website, it doesn't have to be. Any page on a given website could rank higher then the homepage.

The myth that the homepage will have the highest pagerank comes from the fact that many webmasters (especially old school webmasters) participated in reciprocal linking programs where they would exchange links to each others homepages. So, by default, the homepage wound up with the highest pagerank simply because it had the most links pointing to it.

So how will my pagerank affect my search engine rankings?

Pagerank is simply not as powerful as it once was. There was a time when all you had to do to rank well was to get enough websites to link to you and you could dominate virtually any listing you wanted. Today, the ranking algorithm is much more complex. Many other factors are taken into account. However, pagerank does still play a reasonably important roll so getting backlinks is still a major task in the search engine optimization world. It's just that the way we go about getting those links has changed.

How do I check a sites pagerank?

Google offers a free toolbar that you can download and install on your machine. One of the things this toolbar does is to display the Pagerank of whatever webpage you're looking at.

One final note, my recommendation is to never worry too much about Pagerank. Build your website to the best of your ability; create well written, compelling web pages and you'll get backlinks naturally. Further, take some of your better articles and submit them to a few article directories - include a resource box which links back to your site and you'll get some excellent backlinks pretty quickly. Just stay away from reciprocal linking campaigns, whatever benefit they once had is long gone.

David Olsen has been an Internet Marketer since 1999. Web sites do not live and die by their PageRank. A PR 6 web site may rank lower than a site with a PR 5 due to other Search Engine Optimization factors. Search engine results are not proportional to a web site's PageRank value.

The PageRank value is a representation of a web site's internal and external link structure. Internally, your web site's pages should be easily accessible from each other and use anchor text relevant to the theme of the web site. Externally speaking, outbound links should be good quality and/or relevant to your web site's content. And finally, it is widely known that incoming links also contribute quite a bit to PageRank. There is obviously much more to achieving good search engine rankings that the above linking strategies.

With that being said, many webmasters become obsessed with the PageRank of their web sites and consider it to be the bottom line of any search engine marketing campaign. This type of thinking can cloud a much more important issue of whether or not the client has seen an improvement in search engine placement and web site traffic. Always base your achievements on specific rankings for keywords that have been well-researched. If you go parading around about achieving a PageRank of 6 for your client, he or she won't care if they aren't seeing a return on their investment, now will they?

If you're working to increase your link popularity through reciprocal links and refuse to link to web sites that are lower than PR 5, rethink your strategy. Well-designed, well-ranked sites with informative content are always a safe bet to link out to. That was my basic strategy with a client of mine in the hospitality industry.

They had a PageRank 4 (at the time of writing this article, January 2005) and rank at #6 on Google for 'bed and breakfast directory' (without quotes). The #7 result has a PR 6 and the next three spots in the first page of results are PR 5 web sites, all higher than my client. This example is repeated throughout the Web and proves that preoccupying yourself with PageRank can result in losing sight of more important ranking factors.

An expert at organic SEO, John Metzler has held executive positions in the search engine marketing industry since 2001. The spiders will crawl the site and find the link to your page.

To find sites that get visited by the spiders frequently, you can view the pagerank of the sites. I will not go into detail about how Google determines pagerank or even what

pagerank is for brevity.

You can find the pagerank of a site by either installing the Google toolbar or visiting third party sites such as:

Sites are given pagerank between 0 and 10. A rule of thumb is that you'll want to get links from sites with a pagerank of at least 5. Those sites get visited by the search engine spiders at least once a day.

To get links from sites with pagerank of 5 you can send the webmaster a link exchange request, submit content for their sites or you can take the simple method as outlined below.

EzineArticles.com is a site where people visit and submit their articles for other publishers to use as content on their sites. Purchasing the right domain name at the right time can mean big money for those in the know who spot a great deal, or jump on an emerging trend.

If you're browsing the popular webmaster forums you'll see a lot of great looking website deals. A growing problem with all of the URL's to choose from is figuring out which ones are real domain bargains and which ones are over-hyped trash.

Often, domain sellers will attempt to fraudulently inflate the stats or in the case of an established website, fake it's Google Pagerank. This score is the popular search engine Google's way to calculate the importance of websites in the Google index. When a site has Pagerank it is listed between 0 and 10. The higher the Pagerank score the better trusted the site is in the eyes of Google.

Devious webmasters often will use a 301 or 302 redirect to artificially boost the domains Pagerank. This gives the appearance of a popular and Google trusted site when in reality it is neither. Those involved with search engine optimization will be able to spot this trick a mile away, but those who are new to the domain purchasing game can lose a wad of cash purchasing a hyped up fake pr domain.

Fake PageRank is a very popular way of over inflating the value of a website domain by tricking Google in to thinking it has more clout than it really does. When someone is offering a website domain for sale one of the selling points frequently used is the website's Pagerank.

One of the tools I always use before ever purchasing an established domain is the Fake PageRank Checker Tool. With this great tool you can spot fake Pagerank and avoid a very costly mistake: http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html

There's no doubt that buying and selling domain names and established websites can be a great money-maker. However, it really pays to take a few careful precautions before you make a purchase to check out the claims being made and do your due diligence to ensure a successful outcome.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Matt_Sherborne

How Google's PageRank Determines Search Engine Optimization

Some internet search engines are set up to look for keywords throughout a webpage, they then use a mathematical equation that takes in the amount of time the keywords appears on the webpage and factors it with the location of the keywords to determine the ranking of the webpage.

Other internet search engines use a process that judges the amount of times a webpage is linked to other web pages to determine how a webpage is ranked. The process of using links to determine search engine ranking is called link analysis.

Keyword searches and link analysis are both part of a routine internet search engine procedure called search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is the art and science of making a website attractive to search engines, the more attractive a website appears to the search engine the higher it will rank in searches and in the world of internet searches ranking is everything.

As 2006 faced its last weeks, Google was the internet search engine that most internet users preferred. Approximately fifty percent of the times a consumer turned to a search engine for their internet needs they turned to Google. Yahoo! was the second favorite.

Most of Google's popularity is credited to its preferred form of search engine optimization, a trademarked program Google dubbed PageRank. When PageRank was patented the patent was assigned to Stanford University.

PageRank was designed by Larry Page, (the name is a play on his name) and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University as part of a research project they were working on about internet search engines.

PageRank is based on the link analyses algorithm. PageRank is described as a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weight to each individual element of a hyperlink set of documents. The purpose is to measure its relative important with the set. The numerical weight assigned to any element is called PageRank of E. PR(E) is the denotation used.

PageRank operates on a system similar to a voting booth. Each time it finds a hyperlink to a webpage, PageRank counts that hyperlink as a vote that supports the webpage. The more pages that link to the page, the more votes of support the webpage receives. If PageRank comes across a website that has absolutely no links connecting it to another webpage then it is not awarded any votes at all.

Tests done with a model like PageRank have shown that the system is not infallible.

The HITS algorithm is an alternate to the PageRank algorithm.

Google's powers that be take a dim view on spamdexing. In 2005 Google designed and activated a program called nofollow, a program they designed to allow webmasters and bloggers to create links that PageRank would ingnore. The same system was also used to keep spamdexing to a minumum.

Google has designed PageRank to be an eight-unit measurement. Google displays the value PageRank places on each website directly beside each website it displays.

It has been proposed that a version of PageRank should be used to replace ISI impact factor so that the quality of a journal citation can be determined.

Richard Henderson runs his own internet marketing business from home and enjoys publishing articles and ebooks for websites as well as his own customers. Guru Slayer is out now, you have to buy it so check out he best Guru Slayer Bonus available.
http://www.makemoney4nothing.com/Guru-Slayer-Review.html

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rich_Henderson

Google PageRank - Mystical Figure Or Vital to Your Success Online?

What is Google PageRank and why is it so important to your site?

Google PageRank is designed to determine the relative importance of all pages on the internet. It is like a voting system where a link from one page to another represents a vote for that page in the eyes of Google. A page with alot of other pages that link to it gets a lot more votes as far as Google is concerned and so has a higher PageRank. If links come from pages with a high PageRank this also represents more votes as far as Google is concerned. The whole process of determining PageRank is a complicated affair, but there are some simple things that you can do in terms of site design to help with your Google PageRank.

PageRank is all about linking, so in terms of site design it is important to look at what incoming links you will have to your site. Remember that an incoming link is a vote for your page and so will help with your Google PageRank. Links from pages that already have a high PageRank in Google will greatly assist your PageRank value. There are a number of ways that you can get incoming links to your sites including writing articles and posting them to an article directory with a link back to your site, posting in blogs with a link back to your site, links to other sites you may have, sharing links with your suppliers, and you can buy links.

In Site links are also an effective way to increase your Google PageRank. When I design a site I try and maximise the number of links between all pages on the site. These links also represent votes. Given that if you have a new site and all of your pages have low PageRank value then these votes may be small in the eyes of Google, but as your traffic starts to increase these votes will assume greater importance. I believe that this element of site design is largely overlooked by individuals and small businesses, so talk to your site designer about maximising the number of internal links within your site.

External links are something that you need to think very carefully about. Lets say on the Home Page of your site you have some incoming links from articles you have written about your business or products, and some links from your suppliers. This gives your page a number of votes that are then distributed across the internal site links from your Home Page and any external links that you may have. Too many external links means you are giving away too many votes to these other pages that you are linking to. My advice is to be careful with external links and to not get carried away with all sorts of widgets, counters, and other things on your Home Page. These all contain links to the people that created them and helps them to get a higher PageRank value. What they do to your PageRank value is water it down. So be discerning in how you make external links to your site, otherwise your PageRank value will suffer.

So, to maximise your PageRank value you need to get high quality incoming links to your site. Or alternately a number of lesser quality links will also help. Maximise the internal linking within your site, and be careful with external links so that you are not giving away too much of the value of these incoming and internal links to other sites.

The web can be a complicated place and many individuals and small businesses struggle to get an online presence. If you've been told that Google only counts links from pages related to your site, or that Google doesn't count links from pages with no PageRank, or that Google doesn't count links from duplicate content pages, you've been lied to.

Google Counts Links From Off-Theme Pages

If your web page is related to arthritis, what constitutes an "on-theme" link (a link from a related subject page)? Maybe the first thing you think of is, "other arthritis-related pages." That's only partly right. Consider these subjects: swimming, cycling, weight loss, vitamins, different types of fat, comfortable furniture, etc. All of them can be related to arthritis!

The only way for Google to ignore "off-theme" links is for it to understand every possible relationship of every conceivable subject in every language they index. Sound impossible? That's because it is.

I've ranked dozens of sites by getting links only from pages that are completely unrelated to the site I'm trying to rank. Google puts them all on page one, so I know it's true.

Google Counts Links From Pages With No PageRank

PageRank is completely overblown these days. It's true that Google used to weight their search results heavily based on the page's PageRank value, but those days were gone years ago. I rank sites all the time by getting links from pages with no PageRank (or very low PageRank) values.

Think about it this, too: is it easier to get 25 links from high PageRank pages or 100 links from low PageRank pages? Because the myth about PageRank's importance persists, it's very difficult to get webmasters with high PageRank pages to link to you, but very easy to get links from low PageRank pages.

Google Counts Links From Duplicate Content Pages

Article writing is huge in the search engine optimization world. Why? Because writing articles that can be distributed to article sites like EzineArticles.com results in a large number of pages linking to your site from all over the web. It takes a lot of links to rank well in Google, and article writing is a popular way to get a lot of links. Each distributed article is a duplicate of the original, and yet Google counts the links.

Of course, article writing isn't the only way to get a lot of links into your site with ease.

There's a system that automatically builds links to your site in the way that Google likes to see, helping you to rank in Google very quickly. The system I strongly recommend has achieved thousands of top 10 rankings in Google for hundreds of webmasters, and can do the same for you as well. The best kind of link you could ever possible receive is a natural link that you have not requested. In this article I will discuss where the best place you can receive a link from.

1. An editorial link is the best kind of link you can receive. An editorial link is a link that is surrounded by the main content of a webpage. Some WebPages may isolate a link in the navigation or within the footer links, although this may be good but not as effective as an editorial link. It is also rumoured that search engines don't pay much attention to footer links.

2. It is a misconception that a link from a high Page Ranked webpage is the best. This is untrue as a website with a high PageRank normally only links to website with similar PageRank and if a search engines see a high PageRank website linking to one with a small PageRank they think this is unnatural. So the best place to receive a link is from a website from a similar PageRank to your own website. However you should not concentrate on the PageRank you should concentrate on websites that are relevant to your own website.

3. Receive a link from a website that is similar to your own. As this is the best place to get a link as the content will be similar to your own and can be of benefit to the website visitor. If you can get a link from a website from your industry you will also find that this link can also bring you quality traffic.

So to recap the best place to receive a link in the main content of a website that is similar to your own and from a PageRank that is similar to your own. As I said the best kind of link is a natural one and the best way to receive this kind of link is to make sure you have unique engaging content on your website.

This will go a long way to encourage people to link naturally to you. This does however take time, that it is wise to employ a search engine optimisation company that can use their experience to help speed up this process.

If your website design needs the help from a professional search engine optimisation company try MOU as they can help your website receive quality links.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sam_L_Lowe

Is PageRank Decay a Hamster Wheel For Webmasters?

A recent Pagerank jiggle seemed to indicate that something interesting was happening. Could Google be using its Pagerank system to prevent low-quality sites getting free traffic?

Several of my own observations indicated that low-value Pagerank links may decay over time.

One webmaster reported a jump from Pagerank zero to Pagerank five, purely from a recent link-building campaign. During his link building efforts, he got a few links from a Pagerank 6 blog, and he expected those links "to fade as new posts come out".

The way that blogs work is that new posts appear on the homepage which is usually the highest ranked page on the blog. Over time, those blog posts move off the homepage and into the archives, where they usually have less Pagerank.

What if the whole web worked in the same way? If new links were counted "in full", but over time the Pagerank of the links "faded"?

If that were the case, a site that was receiving lots of traffic, but which stopped getting links would eventually lose its traffic. That's what I experienced with one of my own websites which was chugging along at 2,000 visitors per day. After the PageRank jiggle, the traffic dropped.

Another indication of Pagerank decay came from an SEO expert who wrote that "You need fresh links today, and in the future".

Are you starting to see a pattern? Pagerank from older blog posts fades, a site that didn't get any recent links experienced falling traffic, and an SEO expert saying you need continual fresh links.

Here's my Pagerank Decay theory...

1: Google loves quality sites.

2: Quality sites get links naturally over time.

3: Low value links decay over time.

"PageRank Decay" would benefit Google, because if a site only gets low-quality links, and the PageRank of those links decays over time, the webmaster either has to continually build more links, or give up.

Webmasters who try to manipulate Google will most likely be getting low-quality links. If they spend time building links, they'll get traffic, but only for a while unless other sites start linking to them naturally. If they don't get any new links for a while, their traffic will fall.

On the other hand, if a webmaster builds a quality website that other webmasters choose to link to, the site will maintain, or even improve, its search engine rankings naturally.

It's possible that Google only applies Pagerank decay to low-value Pagerank links. Presumably, the age of a link from a top-quality website wouldn't affect its value. Anyone who had a site good enough to get a link from a Pagerank 8 or higher website wouldn't see the value of that link dwindle to nothing in over time. Sites with PageRank 8 or higher would thereby form a "backbone" of quality, trusted sites from which PageRank would flow to lesser sites.

The bottom line is that, if you accept PageRank Decay exists then anyone who works really hard to build "low value" links into their sites will have to keep working hard just to maintain their traffic.

PageRank Decay is like a hamster wheel for webmasters who build sites that don't get natural links.

Getting links from blogs is a great way to boost your website's traffic. There are many ways individual website owners can help increase their visitor numbers. There are also different ways to measure the number of visitors and importance of a website. One type of rank that website owners like to see favorable numbers on is the PageRank, which is a Google-related term. There are ways this PageRank can be increased by using web directory submissions.

What are PageRank and Web Directory Submissions?

Before looking into how both of these items relate to one another, it is important to have an idea what each one is. A PageRank is a term that basically equates with how many votes a particular webpage gets from other web pages on the Internet. This is usually calculated by looking at the links one web page has on other websites.

As for web directory submissions, these are listings that are placed on web directories. Web directories allow visitors to click on specific categories to find links to websites which may contain the content or products one is looking for. These web directory submissions are a way for individual website owners to bring more Internet user traffic their way.

How Do Web Directory Submissions Increase PageRank?

The more times that an individual places their website links on web directory submissions, the more likely it is that individuals will visit their website. This may also lead to having websites put links to the webpage on their site as it may contain valuable information relating to the subject which one is searching for online. Therefore, the more links an individual website has placed throughout the Internet, especially on web directories, the greater the PageRank will likely be. PageRank is a way for a website owner to gain website visitors as well as a good reputation for being a frequently visited site.

Conclusion

It is important to note that a favorable PageRank is not the only indicator of a good website. There are many other calculations which are used to portray a valuable webpage or website. In addition, web directory submissions are just one way to increase PageRank. With that said, it certainly does not hurt to utilize web directory submissions to help gain PageRank numbers.

Build incoming links to your web site by submitting to the Net-Guild web directory http://www.net-guild.com. People often referring to the Term in a way that it is ambiguous. The problem is, that the two meanings of the word are very different from each other.

The best way to avoid confusion is to extend the term Page Rank when you are using it in a conversation or article to indicate what you are referring to when you say "Page Rank". Use the terms "Google PageRank" and "Page Ranking" or "Ranking of a Page" instead.

But what exactly are the two meanings of the term and why is one of the two supposed to be inaccurate or incorrect most of the time, when displayed via a certain very popular browser plug-in or specialized SEO tools?

"Page Rank" (two words),

incorporates ALL Ranking criteria used by a Search Engine Algorithm to calculate the Value a page has for a specific Search Term. All Pages that match a Key Phrase are sorted by the Page Rank Value.

This is part of every Search Engine that displays search results by "relevance" and not just alphabetically.

"PageRank(tm)" (PR) - the Google PageRank,

is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the Web. PageRank is a trademark Term of Google and the algorithm named PageRank is patented by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page.

Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The famous PageRank algorithm allows the determination of each pages PageRank in relationship to all pages available on the Web (in the Google Index).

The Google PageRank is only one of over 100 criteria for Google to determine the "Page Rank" of a Page for a specific Key Phrase in Google's vast Search Index.

The Google PageRank(tm) value displayed in the Google Toolbar (the value between 0-10) is not the value used by Google Internally. That means that for example a Page where the Toolbar shows "0" as PageRank might has internally a much higher PageRank, between 3 and 4 for example.

The reason for the difference is not clear and people can only speculate.

Even if the displayed PageRank Value would be somewhat accurate, so is it still not the exact number/value Google is using in their Algorithm.

The actual calculated number using the original algorithm is a floating point number with a lot of digits after the decimal point. A site with PR 1 could have an actual PR of 1.298245 another one with PR1 might only has an actual PR of 1.00123.

Integer vs Floating Point

The fact that the Toolbar value is rounded to the next whole number is important, because this invisible difference is making a bigger difference the higher the PageRank of a site becomes (a difference of hundreds of thousands of inbound links between 2 pages with the same displayed PR).

Furthermore, the "Google PageRank(tm)" is a number/value assigned by Google to a page/document, independent from the Keyword Phrase. "Page Rank" on the other hand is the number/value assigned to a page in combination with a specific Keyword Phrase.

Conclusions

Fact 1.

"Page Rank" is not the same as "Google PageRank(tm)"

Fact 2.

"Google PageRank(tm)" shown in the Google Toolbar is not the same as the actual "Google PageRank(tm)" number or value used by Google to determine the "Page Rank" of a Page for a specific Key phrase.

Fact 3.

"Google PageRank(tm)" value is for a specific Page or document on the Web and the "Page Rank" value is for a specific Web Page/Document and Keyword Phrase combination.

Carsten Cumbrowski is an Internet Marketing Entrepreneur with several years experience in Affiliate Marketing, Search Engine Marketing as well as Search Engine Optimization. . The problem is, that there are so many myths and rumors about SEO, that it is hard for most webmasters to know what to do, or even how to choose the best SEO services for their site. In this article, I will debunk two popular SEO myths.

SEO Myth #1: Google PageRank is very important

Google Page Rank is way over-valued by many webmasters. It is not unusual for a website with a PageRank of 2 to outrank a website with a PageRank of 5. The reason is that PageRank is only an indicator of one of many factors, and PageRank is not even a reliable indicator, at that.

GooglePage Rank is simply a measurement of how many pages link to you. Every page that links to your site gives your site a certain number of points. The number of points the link gives your site is determined by dividing the number of points that that page has by the number of links it has to other websites.

Google PageRank is becoming increasingly unreliable, too. In the most recent update, millions of webpages were changed to a PageRank of 0, for no apparent reason.

SEO Myth #2: Meta tags determine your rankings

The major search engines pay little or no attention to your meta tags when ranking your website. This is because meta tags are too easy to optimize for the search engines, but not be relevant, since your visitors do not see them.

The meta description tag is used by search engines to display in search results, so it is important, since searchers see it. But your meta description tag still bears little weight to your site's ranking.

There are two things that ARE important in SEO – the content on your webpages, and quality links pointing to your website.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Gabriel_J._Adams

About Google PageRank

PageRank (PR) is Google’s way of measuring the quality and relative “importance” of your website to searchers. It’s purpose is to give web surfers an idea of the importance of a website

PageRank is measured on a scale of 0 to 10. Your PageRank depends on the amount of web pages that link to yours, and the PR’s of each of those pages.

It can take up to three months for a new website to be assigned a PageRank – depending on when Google decides to do the Google Update, where all websites’ PR’s are reviewed.

A thousand links from pages with low PageRanks can eventually achieve as high a PR as that from a few web pages with high PR’s. Some website owners research the value of a potential link partner’s PR before deciding whether or not to link with them.

It’s true that a web page with a high PageRank can pass on a high PR to you, but this can be offset if the page has too many links on it, because the PR is distributed proportionally to all the web pages it links to.

A page with a low PR may be worth linking to

The website may be very new and you will have to wait for the Google Update before the value of linking with that website can be determined.

Never link with a website merely because they have a high PR – consider the content of the website and it’s relevance to your target market as well.

Misconceptions Addressed:

A High PageRank does not mean you will rank at the top of Google’s results pages; it merely means that your website is well established on the Internet and that if your website is listed in the Google Directory it will be listed above similar websites with lower PageRanks. It is debateable, but the only true benefits of a high PageRank are that visitors that come across your site and see on the Google Toolbar that you have a high rank may perceive you as a more professional business, and that you are may receive more traffic from the Google Directory.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Simms

Five FAQ About Google PageRank

Five FAQ about Google PageRank

1. What is PageRank and why should I care about it?

PageRank is a formula that assigns a value to every page in the Google index. Google displays search results based on an algorithm which includes the value of PageRank. So the higher your site's PageRank, the more likely it is that you will receive a top listing on the search result page when someone types in the keywords for your site.

2. How can I view the PageRank of my own or other websites?

It's very simple to see anyone's PageRank. Just download and install the Google toolbar. It's a very quick and easy install. Just be sure to choose the Advanced option during the install so the PageRank of each site you visit will be displayed on the toolbar.

3. How is PageRank calculated?

I've seen a formula for PageRank posted on Internet websites and forums but have failed to see anyone give a satisfactory explanation of the formula. The formula appears so complex you would probably have to be a mathematician to even have a chance to decipher it anyway. It looks something like this:

PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + ... + PR(tn)/C(tn))

I will attempt to explain it for you in plain English. Basically it works like this. The more links that point to your website the higher your PageRank will be. The higher the PageRank of the referring page that has your link on it, the more PageRank you receive from Google. For every outgoing link that a page has, the value of those links drop. So for example, a link from a page with a PageRank of 4, and only 3 other links, is worth more than a page with a PageRank of 5 and 100 links. It is also believed that Google assigns more value to a link that comes from a site with similar content. So as you can see, there are many variables when calculating PageRank.

4. How do I increase my PageRank?

Again, PageRank can be increased by the number of incoming links to your website from other sites on the Internet. In addition, it requires anywhere from five to seven times more to get from one level of PageRank to the next.

So for example, (and this is not a true formula) if 100 PageRank 3 sites with a link to your page give you a PageRank of 4, then it would take around 500 more PageRank 3 sites to link to you before you became PageRank 5. However if you had 1 link from a PageRank 8 site, that might be enough to give a higher PageRank all by its self. It's really all relative and trying to figure it out will simply drive you mad, so don't bother. :) The best thing you can do is obtain as many quality incoming links from other sites with similar content as you possibly can.

Another important factor is the number of pages on your site. The more pages on your site, the higher potential you have to gain in PageRank. More pages doesn't mean you will get a higher PageRank only that you won't hit a ceiling. Apparently Google has a cut off point somewhere on the highest PageRank it will give to sites with a low number of pages.

5. When will my PageRank be updated or change?

According to the Google website, they update the index about once a month. However if you spend any amount of time reading search engine forums, you will find that results vary for every webmaster. PageRank may not update or may change drastically for a long period of time which is often times unexplainable. Usually as long as you follow good web site optimization techniques and maintain enough quality incoming links, the index will eventually assign your website PageRank and adjust any changes which may have been made in error.

About The Author

Most Relevant Links Directory http://www.most-relevant-links.com/. Although not the only factor in how your website ranks in the search engines, it is one of the major factors. As many people know, PageRank is determined by the number of links pointed at a website. However, there are a lot of subtleties and many other PageRank factors unknown to all but Google insiders.

Google displays PageRank on a scale of 0-10. However, in reality, it is a logarithmic function. For example, 10 out of 100 could be a displayed Page Rank of 2 while 80 out of 100 could be a 9. Of course, 100 is just a made up number, there are lots of different values of links that would on the 100 points scale, be a fraction of a point.

The system for PageRank is that each link is a vote of confidence in another site. If an important site links to you, you will obtain more importance than if a non-important site linked to you. Also, the vote is divided by the number of links the page has. For instance, if a page has a PageRank of 4 and there are 4 links on the page, the vote will be divided into four equal parts.

Note: It should be evident by now that large auto-submit directories and link farms aren't very beneficial to your PageRank as whatever PageRank they have will be divided among hundreds and hundreds of links.

You should note that all pages have a PageRank. It may be so small that it displays as 0, but it has a PageRank nonetheless. That means, as you have more content on your site, your PageRank will naturally go up. Obviously this requires lots and lots of content and your site must be well connected to distribute the PageRank. However, as any of the content on your site becomes important, your site's overall importance will increase and the more content, the more of a chance that your PageRank will increase.

Now comes the common question:

Q: Wouldn't all of your pages start ranking better if a few articles here and there got a lot of links?

A: Of course! That's why the common adage that "content is king" exists. By linking to your other pages with a navigation panel or sidebar, your pages are constantly giving one other votes. However, you must be aware that by the same token, your site can "leak" PageRank for linking to other sites. This shouldn't be a big deal though and by creating useful website, you are definitely going to have to link to other websites at times anyways.

So, in short, to increase your PageRank, create a useful website people want to use. Good luck! :]

Here's a link for those interested in reading the essay the founders of Google wrote on PageRank among other things:

http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html

Disclaimer: Remember, PageRank is NOT the only factor is search engine rank.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Su

The Importance of PageRank

The internet would be nothing without linking. This much is true. The way Google works is that each and every link to a website (with the exception of those with a nofollow attrib. pinned to them) count as a virtual 'vote' for the target website. To further increase the accuracy of their search results, Google implemented a system whereby they can weigh websites in terms of how authoritative they are. This system is known as a websites PageRank.

Here's what we do know about PageRank:

* PageRank is derived from the inbound links to the page. It is independent of your keyword selection, quality of content or traffic. For simplicity's sake, the PR of a page is basically dependent on how high the PR of the pages that link to it are. (There is also a dampening factor)
* Google Toolbar PR is out-dated. Your PR is ever-changing, and the Toolbar export only occurs every ~3months. Again, this is not definitive, but PR on the G toolbar can be up to 6 months out of date.
* PR != Good SERPs. This is what I'll elaborate on.

Here's an excerpt of what an SEO company has to say about PR:

Ultimately that can mean higher search result rankings for competitive keywords. PageRank, therefore, seems to be only a very small (but somewhat important) part of the overall equation. PageRank is judged primarily on a website's link age, link volume, and link value.

Most authorities in the Search Engine Optimization industry, including both individuals and companies have denounced the once mythical status of PageRank. At one time, PageRank was so valuable that companies were willing to pay to increase their website's PageRank (through link buying). As till recently, high PageRank meant high rankings nearly all the time.

Many, many people believe that PageRank is a very important part of the Google algorithm. It is not. It is a part of the algorithm, but high PR certainly does not mean you'll crack the #1 spot. Having a high PR has been proven to be the difference in niches with very competitive keywords, but beyond that - the metric is only handy when you're trying to sell links to people who still think the world of PageRank.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=James_Paisley pagerank 1

The Red Herring that is Google Pagerank

Google likes to offer all kinds of neat little tips and clues regarding how it views sites. Google PageRank is one such tool, but with questionable value.

Google is a highly secretive beast. If you are trying to optimize your site to obtain high rankings, Google will provide you with little or no information. It even fails to show all of the links it is counting to your site, a negative step that no other engine takes. What Google does provide, however, is the Google PageRank for sites.

In my opinion, Google PageRank is a bit of red herring. I don’t believe it tells you much about how Google views your site. Instead, it is a bit of bait designed to get you to download the Google Toolbar. Yes, you can only see your PageRank if you download a Google program on to your computer. And you thought Microsoft was bad!

Assuming you have downloaded the toolbar, the PageRank is the little bar in the middle that should be partially covered in green. The green represents your PageRank and is out of ten. You can run your cursor across it and the actual PageRank number will appear. Most sites have a PageRank of 3 to start off with. Google gives itself a rank of 10, while Yahoo and MSN each get a 9. If your bar is grey, it means you have been banned by Google for doing something they don’t like in your optimization efforts. If the bar is blank, it either means your site has not been indexed yet, is relatively new or Google is updating its rankings.

So, what does the Google PageRank really mean? Not much. Originally, it was thought to be a measure of value compared to other sites. Google still touts the tool as this, but this claim appears a bit dubious. A site with a PageRank of 5 will not necessarily outrank a site with a PageRank of 3. You can perform a search on Google for practically any keyword and see as much by looking at the top 5 returned listings.

Google PageRank is an interesting tool in a very general sense. It can be used to determine that Google has found your site and how it generally values it compared to others. Just keep in mind that it does not actually mean much of anything when it comes to rankings.

Halstatt Pires is with MarketingTitan.com - providing services for internet marketing.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Halstatt_Pires pagerank 1

Google Pagerank Algorithm Explained

Google uses the PageRank algorithm to rank pages in their search engine results. The algorithm is based on analysing link structures: each link can be seen as a vote by a page for another page it links to. It is necessary to have a basic understanding of how PageRank works to be able to optimize web sites for the Google search engine .

History of PageRank

PageRank was invented by Larry Page at Stanford University, and named after him. Page began the project in 1995, and worked on it with Sergey Brin. The project then lead to the prototype Google in 1998. Google Inc. was founded to manage the Google search engine, which used PageRank. Currently the trademark PageRank belongs to Google Inc., but the original patent for the PageRank algorithm is assigned to Stanford University.

Google has since grown to the largest search engine in the world, with nearly two thirds of searches made on Google. The PageRank algorithm is still one of the factors taken into account in Google's search engine result ranking, and it is constantly followed by interested search engine marketing specialists around the world.

The PageRank Algorithm

A good analogy for the PageRank algorithm is that each link is a vote for the target page. This link structure of the web is analyzed recursively, so that the value of each vote depends on the PageRank of the voting page, calculated from the votes in the previous iteration of PageRank.

When a new page comes into being in this link structure, it will only get a PageRank value once other pages link to it. Each link will give some PageRank to the new page, the amount a single link gives depending mostly on two things: the PageRank of the linking page, and the number of links on it. The more outbound links a page has, the less weight each of them will have.

The actual algorithm used by Google is, naturally, more complicated then this. That algorithm also takes into account page topics. Pages with the same, or related topic that link to each other will carry more weight with their links than completely different pages that link to each other.

It is thought that raw PageRank data exists as a floating point number for each page. These real time values are constantly updated by Google crawlers. The visible PageRank value that can be seen on the Google Toolbar is on a scale from zero to ten. This is exported from the real time PR data approximately once every three months. On Google Directory the PageRank is reported as an eight unit measure, which is also periodically compiled from the real time data, though less often than the toolbar PageRank is.

In Conclusion

The voting analogy describes the PageRank algorithm fairly well, but, though Google may claim so, it is not a completely democratic system. The weight of each link depends both on the PageRank of the page linking and the number of links it has. To improve PageRank, more inbound links, preferably from pages with high PageRank, must be acquired.

Sutocu is the author of Your Website Profit. Make money online, or see our recommended Greece Hotels

Article Source: EzineArticles.com/?expert=Suto_Cu
